Coffee Shop Stop

Welcome to Coffee Shop Stop!

I often consider myself lucky that I grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia since I had access to the stores, the mountains and the beach but as a teen, I really came to love my access to the downtown core when I discovered the coffee culture that was available there.

It wasn’t that I was such a huge coffee drinker in my teens, although I did enjoy the occasional cup, it was that I enjoyed the atmosphere found in many of the coffee shops. There, dark colors and earth scents set a mood for poetry readings, music and good conversations and I got to pretend that at the age of 15, I had many abstract and deep thoughts to share.

I ate it up and became a huge fan of coffee shops, although I stopped going to them when I started my first job and had less time for simply enjoying a cup of coffee.

Fast forward a few years, and I was no longer living in BC. The coffee shops of my teen years had faded away and I found that the only coffee shops I went to were ones that featured a drive through.

It wasn’t until I was working at a small childcare center that I once again found the enjoyment of a good coffee house. Every day, I would commute to work, the only bus available to that area arrived an hour before I started work, and I would stop in at a coffee house. There I would listen to the music quietly playing and read a good book or two. It was such a peaceful way to spend the morning and I found a lot of enjoyment in the whole activity.

It reminded me that although the coffee shops that I frequented as a youth were dark and brooding, coffee shops can be great places to refresh oneself and to find a quiet place in the world.

It reminded me that we need places to reflect and enjoy a good cup of coffee and that is why this site offers a look into the world of coffee shops. We look at coffee shop scenes to starting your own coffee shop and we look at how refreshing each coffee shop can be.

Now that I have taken the opportunity to share a memory of my own, why not tell us about your own experiences with coffee shops and how enjoyable they can be.
